Amazon.com Product Description With the Britax Advocate CS Car Seat, you get the premier safety features in a versatile car seat that your child can use from birth through toddlerhood. Featuring Side Impact Cushion Technology and True Side Impact Protection, this seat offers the latest in Britax's car seat safety technology. Allowing for both rear-facing and forward-facing configurations, this convertible car seat can handle a weight load of up to 65 pounds, which means that you can use it for a longer period of your child's life, making it a practical and economical choice for your family View larger. | Side Impact Cushion Technology reduces side impact crash forces by 50%, by diverting crash forces away from the child | True Side Impact Protection™ distributes crash forces, shields from vehicle intrusion, contains the head and body, and minimizes side to side head movement | Convertible Car Seat Offers Years of Use The Advocate CS is a convertible car seat, which means that it can be used in both rear-facing and forward-facing configurations. Infants are required by law to sit in a rear-facing position until the age of one and until they weigh over 20 pounds. After that, they can sit in a forward-facing car seat. Rather than spending your money on separate seats for each configuration, you can economize by meeting the needs of each stage with the Advocate CS. The Advocate CS has higher weight limits than many other car seats, allowing infants between five and 35 pounds to ride in the rear-facing position and toddlers up to 65 pounds in weight and 49 inches in height in the forward-facing position. These higher weight limits extend the seat's usability and make it more practical, more economical, and also more comfortable to use with larger children. Cutting-Edge Safety Features Offer Innovative Protection With the Advocate CS car seat, you can provide your child with Britax's latest, high-quality protection. This seat features Side Impact Cushion Technology, which reduces side impact crash forces by 50 percent, using specially designed energy-management cushions at the upper sides of the car seat. The seat's True Side Impact Protection system combines deep side walls, energy-absorbing foam, and an adjustable head restraint to offer your child further valuable protection from side impacts. The Advocate CS also features the patented Versa-Tether, which tethers the seat at two top-located points. This unique system is designed to minimize forward movement when the car stops suddenly. It also can be used for seat stabilization in the rear-facing configuration. Another signature of the Roundabout 50 is its innovative, energy-absorbing seat base, which is contoured to fit most vehicles. Comfortable, Stylish, and Convenient Yes, the Advocate CS is safe and versatile, but it's also designed to give your child a comfortable ride. It features the patented Harness Ultra Guard System (HUGS), which offers safe and gentle cushioning for your child's neck and chest while limiting forward head movement in the event of a crash. The seat's high-density foam offers plush padding and rear- and forward-facing recline functions that let you position the seat to your child's comfort, making this seat an ideal choice for long trips. And the plush, washable cover comes with matching comfort and belly pads to keep your child extra-snug. The seat is built with parents in mind, too. Moms and dads will appreciate the tangle-free, No Re-Thread Harness, which easily allows the five-point harness to be adjusted without cumbersome disassembly -- both the harness and the headrest can be repositioned with the turn of a knob. Also, convenient belt holders hold the harness out of the way while parents place their child in the seat. The Advocate CS installs easily with a premium LATCH connector that's designed for easy, tight, and secure installation. It releases easily with the push of a button. The Advocate CS measures 21 x 27 x 25.5 inches and weighs 21 pounds. Its contoured base is designed to fit most vehicles.

Smaller than my infant carrier! March 5, 2010 Mandi (Philadelphia, PA) Everyone has rather thoroughly explained the pros and cons of the seat, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE. So I'll spare you ALL the details.
One thing I don't see mentioned is the top tether, which straps to the floor and keeps the seat from flying upwards in case of a short-stop. I don't know if this is now standard on all car seats (this is my first car seat in 13 years) but it impressed me. The seat does not budge at all in my car - and only took about five minutes to install (unlike the infant carrier, which never seemed to be installed properly and took several hours and adults to finally throw their hands in the air and give up - btw, that's the Cosco brand and came with a stroller that is impossible to steer and falling apart after less than 10 uses).
And for those of you worried about size, the seat (even fully reclined and rear-facing) fits PERFECTLY in the center of my backseat, without causing discomfort to the driver and passenger (because they have to sit squashed up to the console). I have a Toyota Camry, so this gives you some idea of size. The seat is, however, quite bulky, which means that squeezing two people in the back with the seat might be a stretch. Guess it's time to lose that babyfat!
Also, if you are concerned about looks - be warned that those white "wings" are HUGE. I'm not concerned about the fact that the seat doesn't match my interior, I'm worried about how easy it is to spot in the back seat and identify as an insanely expensive car seat (something I hope not too many thiefs are keen on). You can find a good deal for the seat on the Internet, I got mine for less than $300 - including tax and shipping.
If you do buy the seat and look for a cover to protect it, I can recommend the Dressy Dribbles toddler-sized seat cover (sold on Amazon through Target). It's soft and will wrap around the headrest (it even has a hole for the click safe). Once the headrest is at the topmost position, I doubt it will fit. Another handy tip, Safety First makes a shade for strollers, I find you can tuck it around the headrest to block sun that comes in through the rear window (I have a five month old, not yet able to rip it down). This helps some.
Hard to Adjust March 1, 2010 PPD Mom We have only ever bought Britax car seats and been extremely pleased however with this car seat it has been a nightmare to adjust the straps. Once my son is in the seat, you cannot pull the straps out to loosen them in order to adjust them appropriately. I have pulled on them with all my strength (and I am a strong mom) and I cannot get the straps to loosen or even tighten. My baby boy has actually cried since it has taken too long to try to get them correct. Watch out. It's the worst!
Comfortable for the long haul - and safe. February 18, 2010 Richard Aubin (Dallas, Texas USA) Let's talk about comfort. My 15-month old daughter cannot tell you why she likes this seat, but I can tell you that she loves it and, for that reason, we love it too. In the past three months, we have taken two very long trips in our car - trips in excess of 700 miles each way (so, that's four 700+ mile trips) and we have had nary a complaint from her (or our other child, in the diplomat, for that matter). She slept long; she slept well; she rode without complaint or discomfort for hours on end (yes, we made stops, but 14 hours in a car is a long time for a little one - regardless of how you break it up). The seat gives her the cushioning to be comfortable and cozy, but also the good support where she needs it for her little body to enjoy extended seat-time and the ventilation to not be too hot. Having our kids comfortable on a long-haul trip is invaluable in reducing the strain of a long trip on everyone in the vehicle, and I also think it is very telling of the comfort they experience on the short-haul trips as well.
Yes, this seat is a giant. We also own a Britax Diplomat Convertible Car Seat Onyx and the Advocate essentially dwarfs it. The side impact cushions (my wife calls them pontoons) are substantial and take up a lot of space. If you were doing a lot of short haul and taking your kids in and out, the size of the seat may raise ease of access issues - but it has not been a bother for us. I could go on for a bit about safety and whatnot, but the safety factor is fairly indisputable. How much of a margin do the pontoons add? I really don't know - but I can tell you that whatever seat you end up choosing, a Britax is worth the cost.
So far love it ! February 4, 2010 Charactergirl (America) We purchased this car seat for my 6 month old.
We also have a Britax Decathlon and wanted to stick with a trusted brand.
At first I was a little overwhelmed by the size. Once I put it in my car It fit perfect.
Yes its big but all Britax car seats are. It is built really well and very sturdy.
I have a Mazda CX7 and the backseat is not very big but the carseat fits great !
Cost doesn't outweigh the benefits January 28, 2010 Jacob Hantla (Chandler, AZ United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The product description effectively describes this car seat. I am comparing it to my inexpensive Graco Sport convertible carseat.
Pro's:
- Britax safety history (side impact cushion technology...watch the video on the Britax site)
-Britax reputation
-Soft plush fabric
-Overall comfort
- Side Impact Protection (including side impact cushion technology)
- Push-button latch connectors (makes installation a breeze)
- Versa-tether (this was much safer than the Graco one I purchased. It can also be used in vehicles that don't have an anchor for a versa tether
- Easy harness adjustment no re-threading necessary
- Easy to recline (this is a great feature and something my previous car seat didn't have. When my daughter falls asleep, or becomes tired I can just recline it)
- Britax website provides manuals and video installation guides
Con's:
- High price
- The manual is difficult to understand for installation, but the website has great videos.
-Fairly large size
-Difficult to recline
-I don't know if it is because I am not used to this car seat yet (had it about 3 months), but for some reason it take me longer to get my daughter in and out of it than it did my Graco seat.
-No cupholder
-The crotch strap is far back and I find myself constantly digging for it.
All in all, I don't think the cost outweighs the benefits of this fancy car seat.
