Love the Britax Marathon February 25, 2010 Gina R. Watkins (Big Sandy, TN USA) I love the Britax Marathon. The Marathon is among one of the top-rated car seats for safety. I have only found one thing wrong which is my baby's head falls to the side or forward when she goes to sleep in it. It looks very uncomfortable not having any support to keep her head from bobbing around when she falls asleep. I think for the price this should not be an issue. I think this is something that needs to be addressed. I still think I made the right choice buying the Marathon and would purchase the same one again. The seat has alot of padding & appears to be very comfortable. Overall it is a great car seat.
Huge, but safe January 31, 2010 C. Baccus (Richmond Hill, GA) This is the best convertible carseat ever! I have owned Eddie Bauer ones in the past and I will never buy one of them again. Although this car seat is pricey, it is well worth the money. Britax is made in the USA!!!! You can change the height of the shoulder straps without removing the entire strap system, which is a huge plus! The seat is very comfy. My four year old tried it out first and she loved it. However, she wanted to get back into her booster seat. I use this for my 1 year old. It is rear facing because she is so small. It is ENORMOUS! However, I drive a van, so there is plenty of room. It was a little confusing when putting it in backwards because there is no level guide. I had to use towels to make it sit level. It is very easy to buckle up my daughter. The belly pad prevents those ineveitable pinches when buckling the harnest. The latch was very easy to do. When I installed it forward facing for my older daughter, it went in in a breeze! The Click & Safe is very useful for rear-facing and infants. It seemed too loose on my older daughter though. The seat cover is the best quality I've ever seen. It seems easy enough to remove, although I haven't had to do that yet. The only drawback is the size, but for the safety features, I'll take enormous.
Marathon CS January 31, 2010 BGBH When we bought a new car, I decided that is was time to get an additional car seat and since my daughter was almost at the top harness position on her current seat (Evenflo Titan Elite) I started researching car seats for the best one to buy. This seat seemed super safe and had good reviews so I went out and bought it, however, we did not keep the Marathon CS because she was so uncomfortable in it. The second we put her in it, she started screaming trying to get out and would not stop until she was taken out of the car. She has always done well in her other seat, not getting upset even when put in multiple times a day. She also pulled at the HUGS on the harness straps constantly. The crotch strap is not adjustable so make sure you try this seat before you buy it.
Even though we did not keep this seat, I give it three stars for construction and ease of installation. The latch system in this seat is amazing, super easy to install. It is also a plus that it is made in the USA!
Rear-facing installation issues January 15, 2010 Lola (Toledo, OH) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
After reading all the reviews, I bought this car seat with high expectations. It was intended to replace a Chicco Keyfit 30 infant seat with a 30 lb weight limit. I planned on installing the Marathon in the safer rear-facing position until my child had reached the full 35 lbs. After reading the manual, I installed the car seat using the latch system behind the drivers seat of my 2008 Mercury Sable. I had the following problems with installation.
1.) Even in my full size sedan, the marathon barely fit behind the drivers seat.
2.) There was no one-pull tightening strap for the latches like there was in my old seat. Each latch had to be tightened individually making it difficult to tighten them evenly. Even when I put my knee into the seat and used all my strength, there was still some right to left shift in the seat.
3.) I wish the seat would have come with a bubble indicator to be sure that the base was level, especially after all that tightening.
4.) The latch loops slide along a bar on the seat, and are supposed to be placed within different sets of guide arrows depending on the installation method. I placed both loops within their sets of guide arrows for rear-facing latch installation, but even after tightening, they could still be moved out of their designated spots when moderate force was applied.
5.) My son is 1 yr old, 23 lbs, and 30 inches tall. He uses the lowest harness belt slots and with the neck pads and the hugs system, there isn't much belt left over for tightening. This isn't really an installation problem, but I can't imagine using this seat for a smaller infant, especially since it didn't come with any real padding. There is also no visor, which our son needs since our rear windows are not tinted.
This seat is probably excellent in the forward-facing configuration, but it doesn't have much value as a convertible in my opinion. I'm glad I had my infant seat, I'll probably use it until he outgrows it. Not sure the convertible is worth the price, I probably could have saved lots of money buying a forward-facing only seat.
One last thing I forgot to include: Britax recommends that the versa-tether always be used with this seat, even in the rear facing position. One might not realize this unless they read the entire manual because it is not discussed in the rear-facing installation section. When it is tethered to the anchor location behind the seat it makes it VERY difficult to put a toddler in the seat because you must scrunch his head underneath it. Using the tether adapter to secure it to the floor eliminates this problem, but it was difficult for me to find an anchor point in my vehicle that did not interfere with positioning my drivers seat.
easy to install December 1, 2009 Steve K (NJ, USA) We purchased Britax Marathon car seat in October 2009. It took me 5 minutes to install the seat, very comfortable and practical.
